Maserati Ghibli II ( 1996)

The presented in the spring of 1992 Maserati Ghibli was a sports car of Italian car manufacturer Maserati. The factory internal model designation is Tipo AM336. It was built after the end of 1966 to the end of 1973 Ghibli the second model of the brand, which bore this name. The new and available only as a coupe vehicle was a descendant of the Biturbo family and had nothing to do with the classic sports cars of the 1960s.

From the Ghibli II, there was next to a road-going version, a racing version, however, received only limited distribution.

Model history

The designed by Marcello Gandini bodywork of the new Ghibli based on recognizable elements of the twin-turbo models. The dimensions of the body structure and identical; and doors, roof and parts of the glazing were taken from previous twin-turbo models. Stylistically, the Ghibli was in many ways an evolution of the recently presented sports car Shamal; in some publications, it was called " domesticated version of Shamal ". He took over the bumpers of Shamal, had, like the latter a conspicuous spoiler at the bottom of the windshield and was wearing the same, strongly flared wings. Also the headlight units - one pairing of a round and a square headlights - were identical, but they were now behind a glass cover, which was perceived by many observers as a stylistic improvement. Finally, the Ghibli was just like the Shamal a raised trunk lid, which, however, was a different design in detail. The interior was dominated by Connolly leather and real wood trim.

Was powered Ghibli initially only by a two-liter twin-turbo V6 with 228 kW, which submitted its power through a five-speed gearbox to the rear wheels. In 1993, for export markets a version with 284 hp leistendem 2.8 -liter V6 in the program that was available with either manual or automatic.

The end of 1994 was a facelift with wider bumpers, a modified Maserati logo on the radiator grille, new wheels and wider tires. At the same time was the five- replaced by a six-speed gearbox.

Sport versions

1995 saw the special edition Ghibli Cup, which was limited to 60 pieces with two-liter engine and 15 copies with the 2.8 - liter engine. The two-liter capacity was increased to 246 kW, the equipment with special rims, Momo steering wheel and aluminum pedals decidedly sporty held.

Maserati Ghibli Open Cup developed for the 1995 and 1996 discharged Ghibli brand trophy. The presented in December 1994 racing model that was built 22 times, had an increase to 239 kW two-liter V6, aluminum wheels with quick release, slick tires, sports suspension, racing brakes, roll bar and a stripped-down interior.
