Location

Confines

The Masherbrum Mountains extend from the Baltoro Kangri in the east to the Koser Gunge group in the west over a length of more than 100 kilometers. They belong to the so-called small Karakorum, bringing the mountain ranges of the great Karakoram glaciers and the underlying Muztagh - chains of the Great Karakoram are south and west respectively. Thus, the Masherbrum Mountains in the north and northeast by the flowing westward Baltoro Glacier and its tributary, the Abruzzi Glacier, Baltoro Muztagh separated from the eight-thousanders of the Karakoram. The northern boundary of the mountain range is the Braldu continued as an outflow of Baltoro glacier. Beyond its valley lie west of the Baltoro Muztagh Muztagh the Panmah and Spantik - Sosbun Mountains ( between which the Biafo glacier) as the boundary between small and large Karakoram flows to Braldu ). The Braldu forms with a northern tributary of the Shigar, which flows south and empties into the Indus at Skardu. Shigar and Indus form the western and southern frame of the mountain range.

The Conway Saddle Baltoro Kangri between Sia Kangri and connects the Masherbrum mountains in the east to the Karakoram main chain. From this saddle the Abruzzi Glacier flows north to the Baltoro. To the south of the Kondus Glacier, which together with its outflow, the Kondus River, the eastern boundary of the mountain range and separates them from the Saltoro mountains flows. The Kondus River flows westward and joins the Hushe River, which flows a little later in the Shyok. Kondus, Hushe and Shyok form in the eastern part of the mountain range, the southern border until the Shyok flows into the Indus. The Shyok separates the Masherbrum mountains of the Ladakh - chain, the Indus separates it from the northern foothills of the Himalayan main ridge.

Within the chain

While the range in the north rises steeply above the valley of the Baltoro, the southern part is crossed by long valleys. The highest mountains are located in the eastern part immediately south of the Baltoro glacier. Further west flattens the chain, the mango Gusor group reaches a height of about 6000 m, which exceeds westward subsequent Koser Gunge group not this height. South Chogolisa the part of the chain follows, where the mountains K6, K7 and link Sar are. This area is called after the Charakusa Glacier as Charakusa Valley and lies between the Kondus and the Hushe Valley. The Hushe valley drained the South Side of Chogolisa and Masherbrum and its neighbors. About the Gondhogoro pass can be achieved by Hushe Valley from the upper Baltoro glacier. Many trekkers who visit the eight-thousanders of the Karakoram, choose the path through the valley as Hushe way back to Skardu.

Mountains

Taking into account all the independent mountains over 6750 meters high with a saddle height over 500 meters.

Other well-known mountains are the Mitre Peak at the Place de la Concorde and the Laila Peak, a steep rocky pinnacle above the Gondoghoro glacier.
