Masjid Sultan

The Masjid Sultan (Sultan Mosque) is located between the Muscat Street and North Bridge Road in Kampong Glam district in Singapore. The mosque opened in 1928 is one of the most important mosques in Singapore.

The original mosque goes to the ruler of Johor, Sultan Hussain Shah (1824), back. In the early 1900s, Singapore became a center for Islamic commerce, culture and art. The old Sultan Mosque was too small for the thriving community so that the Mosque Foundation was planning a new building. The architect Denis Santry built the new mosque in the Indo - Saracenic style with minarets and balustrades. Construction began in 1924 and was completed four years later.

On March 14, 1975, the Sultan Mosque was declared a National Monument of Singapore. Today, the mosque of the Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura ( MUIS ) is maintained.
