Masmuda

The Masmuda (Arabic مصمودة, DMG Masmuda ) were next to the Zanata and Sanhaja one of the major tribal groups of the Berbers in the Maghreb.

History

The Masmuda populated large parts of Morocco were mainly sedentary and agricultural. Residence of the princes was Masmuda Aghmat at the foot of the High Atlas (30 km from Marrakech ). From the 10th century invaded the Berber groups Sanhaja and Zanata in the settlement areas of Masmuda. These were followed since the 11th century Arab Bedouin (see: Banu Hilal ).

Ibn Tumart united in the early 12th century, the Masmudastämme and founded the Almohad movement, which the entire Maghreb and Andalusia united in the subsequent period. After the fall of the Almohads but sat down again particularism between Masmudastämmen through, so that they were lost and Arabized their political significance. Rest of the groups are the Masmuda Haha Algiers. Other groups have been merged into the trunk of Schluh / Schlöh in the High Atlas.
