Geography

The County is located in the central northwestern Illinois on the left bank of the Illinois River. To the south the county is limited by the Sangamon River, which flows into the Illinois River is located in the extreme southwest.

History

The Mason County was formed on January 20, 1841 from parts of Tazewell County. It was named by the new settlers after its former Mason County in Kentucky.
