Mass Rapid Transit (Singapore)

Mass Rapid Transit (MRT ) is the name for Singapore's metro network. With the exception of the city center, it is done primarily on stilts. The first part of the MRT Yio Chu Kang after Toa Payoh was opened in 1987. The lines were built by the Land Transport Authority (LTA ). The operation of the MRI is the responsibility of SMRT Corporation and SBS Transit. With the EZ -link card, which serves as a ticket, the train and bus system in Singapore can be used without cash. MRI Single tickets are now tickets, which can be used up to six times. They are subject to a lien of 10 cents, which is counted in the third trip on the fare. In the sixth trip, the fare is reduced back to 10 cents.

The underground stations are equipped with platform screen doors that open to the train arrival to ensure a continuous air-conditioning of the stations. At the same time, it is virtually impossible to fall onto the tracks or to be pushed to those.

History

Route network

Currently, four lines are in operation. The trains are powered by a side-mounted from the track circuit track with 750 volts DC. In the north - east line instead, a power supply through overhead line with 1500 volts DC was installed.

Construction and planning

In construction or in planning routes located:

Light Rail Transit ( LRT)

In addition to the high-load MRT lines, there is the Bukit Panjang -, Sengkang and Punggol low-load - lines, of which the latter is under construction. In English this as a Light Rail Transit ( LRT) are referred to, they complement the MRT system in Singapore.

The LRT lines:

The two LRT networks of SBS Transit are connected along the north -east by a line running track together; the Punggol LRT may thus shared use the depot, the Sengkang LRT.

Rolling stock

The car park of the MRT consists of four series. The majority is made up of the 396 type cars Kawasaki Heavy Industries C151, which were built between 1986 and 1989. A car of this type is 23 meters long, 3.2 meters wide, 3.7 meters high and weighs about 35 tons. A train consists of six cars and this is a total of 138 meters long. The track width is 1435 mm ( standard gauge ). The trains sourced from the power rail 750 V DC and reach a maximum of 80 km / h They fall into two railcar units (Electronic Multiple Units EMU ) share, each comprising a control cars and two motor cars. A train of this series has 296 seats. At each of the six carriages are four doors on each side, which have an inside diameter of 1400 millimeters. The cars are connected with transitions, so that you can go through the entire train. The series has been renovated by 2008.

Furthermore, the MRI features of the wagons Siemens C651 series. 114 cars of this type were purchased traffic engineering in 1994 by Siemens. From the series Kawasaki Heavy Industries & Nippon Sharyo C751B 126 cars are in stock. These were acquired from 1998 to 2001. These three series operate on the North South Line and East West Line.

For the North -East line Alstom Metropolis C751A series was acquired based on the range of Alstom Alstom Metropolis 2003. The number of vehicles of MRI includes 150 driverless cars of this type. For the ring line 120 wagons of the type Alstom Metropolis C830 were purchased, another 50 have been ordered.

In LRT routes operate fully automated trains with rubber tires of the Bombardier CX -100 and Mitsubishi Crystal Mover series.
