Masseube

Marciac ( Gascon: Masseuva ) is a commune of 1600 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the southwest of the country. Marciac is part of the Région Midi -Pyrénées and Gers. The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Mirande and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the Canton of Marciac. The inhabitants are called Massylvains.

Geography

The village is located about 24 kilometers south of Auch. By the river Marciac Gers, after the department was named flows.

History

Marciac is a bastide, founded by the abbot of the Cistercian monastery L' Escaladieu and Count Bernard IV of Armagnac in 1274. In the time of the German occupation of France from 1941 here was a concentration camp.
