Massimo Mauro

Massimo Mauro ( born May 24, 1962 in Catanzaro, Italy ) is an Italian former football player and functionary and today's politicians and television commentator.

Football career

Massimo Mauro began his professional career with his hometown club, the U.S. Catanzaro, for which he at 0:3 against AC Milan celebrated his Serie A debut on 27 April 1980 under coach Carlo Mazzone. In the following two seasons Mauro was reach the age of not even 20 years, a regular player for Catanzaro in Italy's top league and could with the Calabrian club single-digit table positions.

In the summer of 1982 changed Massimo Mauro, which was used mostly as a winger, to northern Italy to Udinese Calcio. There he spent the next three years, in turn, stem strength and played among other things on the side of the Brazilian Zico, a superstar of that time. In 1985 he made his move to Juventus, where he had another absolute world class player with Michel Platini to teammates. At Juve he won under coach Giovanni Trapattoni in his first season at first World Cup and the Scudetto. The following three seasons ran for Mauro the record champions less successful. In 1988, he took with the Italian Olympic team at the Summer Olympics in Seoul part and missed it, after the 0:3 in the match for third place against Germany, only just a medal.

For the 1989/90 season Massimo Mauro went to Napoli. There he won, on the side of the likes of Diego Maradona, Careca or Gianfranco Zola, immediately turn the championship. In the following three years, Mauro did not come so often used. At the end of the season 1992/93 he finished, after 307 Serie A games with 14 goals, his professional career.

Life after football

After the end of his professional career Massimo Mauro moved into politics. He was as a candidate of the center- left coalition The Olive in Calabria, elected to the Camera dei deputati, one of the two chambers of parliament, the Italian Republic in 1996.

From October 1997 to July 1999, he was president of the football club Genoa.

In May 2006 Massimo Mauro ran at the Turin municipal election for The Olive and was elected to the city council. He also works for the TV platform Sky Italia as a commentator.

Trivia

  • Massimo Mauro is the only footballer who played together in his career with Zico, Platini and Maradona. Therefore, wearing his published in 2001 book entitled " Ho giocato con tre geni " ("I have played with three geniuses ").
  • In November 2004 he founded together with Gianluca Vialli, the Fondazione Vialli e Mauro per la ricerca e lo sport, a foundation that collects through the organization of sporting activities to raise money for medical research projects.
