Massina Empire

The Massina Empire was a state of the Fulbe and was in the area of ​​Massina in present-day Mali.

After the destruction of the Songhai Empire by the Moroccans, the Fulbe were autonomous in Massina. They were vassals of the Moroccan Pasha in 1600 in Timbuktu, in the late 17th century vassals of Segu.

Inspired by the success of Usman dan Fodio, who built the jihad of the Fulbe in the years 1804-1810 in the northwest of present-day Nigeria, the Sokoto Caliphate, conquered Amadu Hammadi Bubu (also: Sékou Amadou or Sechu Amadu ) of the people of Fulbe probably after 1810 Djenné and then the area around Mopti 1818-1819. , he founded in today's region of Mopti its capital Hamdallaye / Hamdullahi, whose ruins are a tourist destination today. In 1845 he conquered then Timbuktu, but died in the same year.
