Matabeleland South Province
Matabeleland South ( German Südmatabeleland ) is a province in Zimbabwe with an area of 54,172 km ² and a population of approximately 650,000 inhabitants ( 2002). The provincial capital is Gwanda.
This province is largely semi-arid region with rare rainfall. Cattle is widespread. In places, there is mining (gold, asbestos, chromium ), but especially tourism. Compared to other provinces, the area is sparsely populated.
