Matei Basarab

Matei Basarab ( 1579-1588 *, † April 19, 1654 ) was Prince of Wallachia 1632-1654.

Life

In 1631 Matei Basarab tried to scramble for the first time the prince throne of Wallachia. On August 23, 1631 it came to Bucharest at the site of the present church Slobozia the fight between Matei Basarab and Prince Leon TOMSA to the throne. However, Basarab lost the battle. But in the following year succeeded Matei Basarab with Transylvanian support to expel Prince Radu Tomşas successor Iliad from Bucharest and to be elected to the Prince. During his tenure, Prince Basarab had more than 45 churches and convents built.
