Matěj Rejsek

Matthias Rejsek or Matěj Rejsek (* 1445 in Prostějov, † July 1, 1506 in Kutna Hora ) was a Czech stonemason, sculptor, architect and architect of the late Gothic period.

Life

Matthias Rejsek was probably born 1445 in Prostějov (either in the Bohemian village Prostějov or in the Moravian town of Olomouc). He came to Prague to study at Charles University. 1469 he finished his studies with a Bachelor and became a teacher at the parish school of Our Lady of Tyn in Prague's Old Town. In Prague, he also built a few houses. One of his most famous works is the Powder Tower, which was built as the Repräsentationstor after 1475. Matthias Rejsek was the builder of the gate in 1478. His work was inspired by the work of Peter Parler.

In 1489 he moved to Kutná Hora, where he worked on the construction of the cathedral of Saint Barbara. Rejsek built the choir of the cathedral. The vaulting of the choir was founded in 1499 manufactured.

He died on July 1, 1506 in Kutna Hora, and was buried in the cathedral of Saint Barbara.
