Matema

Matema is a small town at the northern end of Lake Malawi in Tanzania.

In the rainy season the village can be unattainable. Matema lies at the foot of the rugged, towering Livingstone Mountains in a plane. It is a fishing village with some agriculture.

From the colonial period, two imposing mission houses of the Berlin Mission remained that today belong to the Lutheran Diocese of Tukuyu. One of the mission houses was extensively renovated in 2008 by the German church district of North Friesland. It is now under the name " Matema Beach View - Lutheran Center" operated by the Tanzanian Lutheran Diocese Konde guest house includes a bistro. The guest house is set on ecclesiastical and tourist guests, who can also be accommodated in one of the 25 typical African huts on the beach. The Lutherans operate in Matema addition, an important regional hospital and a Bible school.

In addition, there is also a guest house in Matema the " Kanisa ya Uinjilisti " ( Mbalizi Evangelical Church ), which was established under Swiss management. The Catholic Diocese maintains a small guest house in Matema.

The place has next to the hospital via a radio station and a disused dirt-track 900 m ( grass ) runway. Matema is connected to the power grid since 2010. A mobile phone is possible. Fixed lines do not exist. There are in the church facilities diesel generators and solar systems to bridge possible current downtime.
