Mathematical Optimization Society

The Mathematical Optimization Society ( MOS) is an international organization in the field of mathematical optimization. Your goal is to promote the optimization in theory and practice. The organization has existed since 1973, are several periodicals, organizes international conferences and awards several prizes. By 2010, the organization was called Mathematical Programming Society ( MPS).

History

With the development of mathematical programming in the 1960s and their increasing practical applicability, the demand after an exchange forum for scientists in this field. It was then founded in 1970 the journal Mathematical Programming, and in the following years laid George Dantzig, Albert Tucker, Phil Wolfe and others, the basis for the Mathematical Programming Society. 1973 an organizational structure was established, with George Dantzig took over the presidency of the newly formed company. Today, the MPS is the most important mathematical society in the field of optimization.

Magazines and prices

The MPS are several periodicals:

  • Mathematical Programming ( Series A / B) is a magazine; Serie A is the publication of original articles in all areas of optimization, while spending Series B are each dedicated to a specific topic.
  • Optima is a kind of newsletter and includes articles on optimization and timely information on conferences, and book reviews.
  • MPS / SIAM Series on Optimization is published by the MPS, together with the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics ( SIAM ). This journal publishes monographs, textbooks, books on applications of optimization and tutorials.

In addition, the MPS will award several prizes, including the Fulkerson Prize, the George B. Dantzig - Prize and the Tucker Award.

Conferences

Several international conferences organized by the MPS:

  • The International Symposium on Mathematical Programming ( ISMP ) is held every three years and covers all topics of mathematical programming.
  • The conference Integer Programming and Combinatorial Optimization ( IPCO ) is considered the most important conference in the integer optimization and is aligned respectively in the years in which there is no ISMP.
  • The International Conference on Continuous Optimization ( ICCOPT ), the continuous sister IPCO Conference, was held in 2004 for the first time.
  • The integer Conference on Stochastic Programming ( ICSP ) is aligned every three years and deals with optimization using uncertain input data.
  • The Nordic MPS Conference is a biennial meeting of forming Scandinavian scientists from all fields of optimization.
  • At the University of Montreal, the MPS depends annual seminars from on specified topics.
