Mathias Eick

Mathias Eick ( born June 26, 1979 in Eidsfoss, Vestfold ) is a Norwegian multi-instrumentalist in the field of jazz and rock music.

Life and work

Mathias Eick comes from a musical family; his father is a jazz musician, his sister Trude Eick horn player and his brother John Eick bassist. He first played the trumpet, which is his favorite instrument; were added as additional instruments bass, vibraphone, piano and guitar. After attending school in Toneheim he studied in Drammen and Trondheim, where he played in the Nu- Jazz Jaga Jazzist lineup and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. The latest album of Jaga Jazzist, on which he has acted, One-Armed Bandit, was published in 2010 with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, he had guest appearances at gigs with Chick Corea, Jon Balke and Pat Metheny. ; He also played in the band of Jacob Young. In addition to his activities in the field of jazz Eick worked with various Norwegian rock bands, including with Turbonegro, DumDum Boys, Motorpsycho, D'Sound and Bigbang. In 2006 he went into the band by Jan Gunnar Hoff with Mike Stern on a European tour, played with Thomas Dybdahl, Manu Katché and church music with Torbjørn Dyrud ( Signs and traces, 2008).

In 2007, he worked as a trumpeter at Ulver album Shadows of the Sun, further in the album The Sham Mirrors the band Arcturus. He joined in 2007 at the North Sea Jazz Festival. In 2008 he presented a first album under his own name before ( The Door ), in which Audun Kleive, Jon Balke, Audun Erlien and Stian Carstensen participated in ECM. 2011 appeared the second album (scale) on ECM. The BMW Welt Jazz Award 2012 went to the Mathias Eick Quintet.
