Mathieu Garon

Mathieu Garon ( born January 9, 1978 in Chandler, Quebec ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender, who was recently at HK Avangard Omsk in the Kontinental Hockey League contract.

Career

Mathieu Garon began his career in the Canadian Junior Football League Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Victoriaville Tigres in 1995. He made it equal to the goalkeeper and was awarded the Trophée Raymond Lagacé as the best rookie in a defensive position. During the NHL Entry Draft 1996, he was selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the second round to 44th overall position.

Garon played until 1998 in the QMJHL, when he was named the best goalkeeper in the league, before he joined the Fredericton Canadiens, the former farm team of the Montreal Canadiens. 1999 the team moved to Québec City and became the independent Quebec citadels. Garon remained goalkeeper of the team of the American Hockey League and in 2000 he first came to Montréal in the National Hockey League action. Nevertheless, he played in the following years almost exclusively in the AHL for the farm teams of Montréal. From 2000 to 2004, he completed only 43 games in the NHL.

In summer 2004, Garon was transferred to the Los Angeles Kings, but his debut in California was delayed due to the 2004/05 season was canceled due the lockout.
