Mathieu Roy

Mathieu Roy ( born August 10, 1983 in Saint -Martin- de -Beauce, Quebec ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since July 2012 at the Hamburg Freezers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga under contract.

Career

Mathieu Roy began his career as a hockey player with the Foreurs de Val- d'Or, for by 2003 he was active from 1999 in the Canadian Junior Football League and QMJHL in the 2000 /01 season, the Coupe du Président won. After his time with the Foreurs the defender in the NHL Entry Draft in 2003 was selected in the seventh round as a total of 215 players from the Edmonton Oilers.

After being in his first two years in the franchise of the Oilers exclusively for their farm teams that had accrued Toronto Roadrunners and their successor team Edmonton Road Runners of the American Hockey League and the Columbus Cottonmouths of the ECHL, the right-handed shooter had during the season 2005/ 06 his debut in the National Hockey League for the Oilers. This season, he was, however, only once in the NHL on the ice as he spent the rest of the time in their new AHL farm team Hamilton Bulldogs. In the period from 2007 to 2009, Roy could not prevail in the NHL team the Edmonton Oilers and played almost exclusively for their AHL farm team Springfield Falcons. On 14 July 2009 he therefore signed as a free agent a contract with Edmonton's league rival Columbus Blue Jackets.

In March 2010 he was transferred to the Florida Panthers, for which he, however, not aground and instead played for the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL. On 29 July 2010, he signed as a free agent with the Tampa Bay Lightning. After he started the 2010/11 season in the NHL, he was sent to four games with the Norfolk Admirals. Plan for the next season of the Canadians of the Carolina Hurricanes was signed, but not completed NHL game for the Canes and spent the season with the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League.

Since 2012 Roy now running on the active in the German Ice Hockey League Hamburg Freezers. Here he meets his former partner Duvie Westcott of the Blue Jackets. Roy extended his contract in January 2013 with the Freezers for two more seasons.
