Mati Klarwein

Mati Klarwein ( born April 9, 1932 in Hamburg, † March 7, 2002 in Deia, Mallorca) was a German painter.

Life

At the time of Klarwein's birth, his father worked as Ossip main design architect in the architectural firm Fritz Högers. His mother was the opera singer Elsa Kühne, married. Klarwein. After completion of the current order of his father - the expressionist church at Hohenzollernplatz - March 19, 1933, the family emigrated to the British Mandate of Palestine, as they had in Germany as Jews no future. 1948, the family traveled to Paris, where Mati Klarwein initially began his education at the École des Beaux -Arts. Later he studied with Fernand Léger and then by Ernst Fuchs, who influenced his work.

He was known primarily for the design of the album cover of Miles Davis Bitches Brew and Carlos Santana's Abraxas. He designed the images of many other album covers (among other things by Jon Hassell and the Last Poets ) and was a sought-after portrait painter.

His style is reminiscent in some aspects to his fellow painter and friend Ernst Fuchs, but ultimately defies any other description. The selected label sometimes psychedelic art precludes the statement of the painter that he did not paint under the influence of drugs.
