Matilda of Savoy, Queen of Portugal

Mathilde Countess of Savoy and Maurienne (* 1125, † November 4, 1157 ) was a Savoyard nobleman and, from 1146 until her death Queen of Portugal.

Matilda was the daughter of Count Amadeus III. of Savoy, born (* 1092 † 1148 ). His mother, Gisela of Burgundy, came from the family of Burgundian rulers whose branch line from 1139 put the kings of Portugal.

Mathilde was so distantly related to Alfonso Henriques, the first king of Portugal, whom she married in 1146. By this marriage she became queen of Portugal ( as a wife, not as a sovereign in its own right ).
