Mats Olsson (handballer)

Mats Olsson ( born January 12, 1960 in Malmö) is a former Swedish handball player and current Handball coach.

He started his career at Malmö Olsson club Dalhems IF. In 1980 he moved to the Swedish top club LUGI HF from Lund, who had just won the national championship for the first time. Thus, the club started in the European Cup of Champions, where the semi-finals was achieved surprising. There one difference, however, with two defeats against the eventual champions SC Magdeburg. Untitled profit left Olsson 1988 his Swedish homeland to move to the emerging top club CB Cantabria Santander. With Santander, he twice won the Spanish league title in 1994 and the Champions League. After his time in Spain Olsson moved back to Sweden - to Ystads - were, however, afterwards again a brief comeback for Santander.

For the national Olsson graduated from 1979 to 1997 a total of 294 internationals. He took part in a total of six world championships, of which he won one with his team ( 1990). With four Olympic appearances, he reached two silver medals. In addition, he was part of the winning team at the first European Handball Championship 1994.

After his playing career Olsson took over as coach of the Portuguese national team.
