Matsuo Sugano

Matsuo Sugano (Japanese菅 野 松 男, Matsuo Sugano; b. 1939 ) is a Japanese astronomer. During his long collaboration on the Civic Planetarium ( Akashi Municipal Planetarium ) in Akashi he strove particularly to the promotion of amateur astronomy in Japan.

Sugano is the co-discoverer of several asteroids. He also discovered three novae: V827 Her with Minoru Honda, V838 Her with George Eric Deacon Alcock and V4327 Sgr with William Liller and the variable star V1143 Ori.

In 1983 he became the first observation of the non-periodic comet C/1983 J1 ( Sugano Saigusa - Fujikawa ).

The asteroid ( 5872 ) Sugano was named after him ( 6155 ) Yokosugano after his wife Yoko.
