Matt Cooke

Matthew David Cooke ( born September 7, 1978 in Belleville, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since July 2013 when the Minnesota Wild of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

The 1.80 m wide winger first played from 1994 to 1995 at the Wellington Dukes in the Metro Junior A Hockey League. He then went from 1995 with the Windsor Spitfires and the Kingston Frontenacs in the Canadian Junior Football League Ontario Hockey League to the ice and scored in 174 OHL games of the regular season 168 points scorer. NHL Entry Draft 1997 Cooke was finally selected as the 144th in the sixth round of the Vancouver Canucks.

First, the left gunner, was used by the Canucks at the Syracuse Crunch, a farm team in the American Hockey League, while the rest of the season 1998/99 he commuted between the Crunch and the Canucks. From the season 2000/ 01 Cooke was an integral permanent staff of the franchise from British Columbia. In the season 2005/ 06, however, he had to because of injury problems, through a career low as he scored only 18 points.

During the season 2007/ 08, on 26 February 2008, the attacker was transferred in exchange for Matt Pettinger to the Washington Capitals. In July 2008, Cooke signed as a free agent contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins, with which the striker in the 2008/ 09 won the Stanley Cup.

In July 2013 Cooke signed a three-year contract worth a total of 7.5 million U.S. dollars at the Minnesota Wild.

Internationally

With the Team Canada Matt Cooke won the World Championship in 2004 the gold medal, he also contested the Junior World Championship in 1998. During the World Cup 2004 Cooke scored in the final against Sweden the hit for a 5-3 final score.
