Matt Gilroy

Matthew Gilroy ( born July 30, 1984 in North Bellmore, New York ) is an American professional ice hockey player on the position of the defender. Since July 2013 he is with the Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League under contract and parallel plays for the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League.

Career

Gilroy first played from 2000 to 2003 in the State of New York for the high school team in the St. Mary's Gaels, in the high school league system of the United States. Following Gilroy went two seasons in the Eastern Junior Hockey League, a junior league unterklassige in the United States, one season for the New York Apple Core and Walpole Stars on the ice. As of 2005, the defenders stood for Hockey Team Boston University, where he played four years in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, on the ice. In 2009, he became the captain of the Boston University, the American College championship of the NCAA and was awarded the Hobey Baker Memorial Award as the best player of the season. After the season he signed a two -year contract with the New York Rangers. On July 2, 2011 Gilroy received as a free agent a contract for one year with the Tampa Bay Lightning. On 27 February 2012 he transferred this in exchange for Brian Lee to the Ottawa Senators. The following season, he was awarded a contract with the New York Rangers, but played during the NHL lockout in the 2012/13 season first in the Connecticut Whale of the American Hockey League, before he in January 2013 in the NHL squad the team was appointed. In July 2013 Gilroy signed a new two-way one-year contract with the Florida Panthers.

Gilroy wears jersey number 97 in memory of his deceased at the age of twelve years, brother Timmy.

For the U.S., Gilroy took part in the 2010 World Cup in Germany.
