Matthew " Matt" McKay ( born January 11, 1983 in Brisbane ) is an Australian football player.

Career

After visiting the Queensland Academy of Sport and the Australian Institute of Sport McKay began his career in the adult population in 2001 in the National Soccer League with the Brisbane Strikers. After setting the league at the end of the 2003/ 04 McKay kept fit with Eastern Suburbs in Brisbane regional football.

With the introduction of the national professional league A-League for the season 2005/ 06 McKay received an offer from Queensland Roar. Since then, the midfielder is one of the undisputed master players of the club, in the first four seasons, he missed only five league games and reached in 2008 and 2009 with the team's play-offs. 2006 and 2009 he played in the Australian season -long break ( March to August) on loan at Incheon United ( South Korea) and Changchun Yatai (China).

National

McKay took part in 2003 with the Australian U -20 team at the Junior World Championships in the United Arab Emirates and came up in central midfield of his team in all four tournament games used. In 2004, he starred in Athens in oceanic qualifying tournament for the 2004 Summer Olympics. The Australian Olympic team qualified by an asset -final win against New Zealand for the final round, in which he, however, did not participate.

At his first appearance in the Australian senior team came McKay on 16 August 2006 in a qualifying match for the Asia Cup 2007 against Kuwait when he came on in injury time for Steve Corica. In the spring of 2009, two more missions joined in qualifying matches for the Asian Cup 2011, when the national team was put together from working in Australia players each.
