Matt Oakley

Matthew " Matt" Oakley ( born August 17, 1977 in Peterborough, England) is an English footballer. The midfielder is currently active for the English second division club Leicester City.

Career

Oakley was already, and especially in his youth as a great talent and played for England four games with the U21 national team; However, in the Senior National Team, he could not penetrate. The majority of his career he spent at Southampton FC, for whom he played a total of 262 top-flight appearances between 1995 and 2006; yet he was able to achieve 26 goals. With Southampton he also celebrated the greatest success of his career, reaching the final of the FA Cup. The discharged on 7 May 2003 game went but 0-1 against Arsenal lost.

In August 2006, Oakley moved free transfer to Derby County; in his first twenty games, he scored three goals. There he achieved his promotion to the Premier League. There, however, the team remained only for one season and went straight back to the second division. In the 2009/10 season Leicester occupied as promoted the fifth place and qualified for the first play-off round. In this Oakley failed with his club but after two games on penalties Cardiff City and thus missed the promotion to the Premier League.
