Matt Pettinger

Matt Pettinger ( born October 22, 1980 in Edmonton, Alberta ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who is since 2012 in the Hamburg Freezers of the DEL under contract.

Career

The 1.85 m wide winger was initially active for various unterklassige teams in the Canadian province of British Columbia, before Pettinger from the 1998/99 season for the ice hockey team of the University of Denver in the game operation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association went on the ice as well as Canadian in the Junior Western Hockey League was in action at the Calgary Hitmen, before he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2000 as 43 in the second round by the Washington Capitals.

During the 2000/ 01 season the links Sagittarius spent the most time with the Portland Pirates, the AHL farm team of the capital, but also completed his first 10 NHL inserts for Washington. In the following years the Canadians moved between Portland and Washington, but from the 2003/04 season was one Pettinger to solid NHL squad of capital. In the 2004/ 05 lockout season Matt Pettinger was in eight games for HDD Olimpija Ljubljana in Slovenia on the ice. For the Trade Deadline 2008, the Canadians moved to the Vancouver Canucks, where he was but the beginning of the following season could not prevail. After being put on the waiver list, the Tampa Bay Lightning secured his services. After two games the farm team Manitoba Moose of the attackers was appointed to the NHL squad of Lightning. In the 2009/10 Pettinger was at the Vancouver Canucks under contract, but played most of the season with their farm team in Manitoba.

In the summer of 2010, he then signed a one-year contract with the Cologne Sharks, which was renewed by the end of the season for another year. After failing to agree on a new contract with the sharks in the spring of 2012, Pettinger moved to league rivals Hamburg Freezers.

Internationally

In the U20 Junior World Championship 2000 Pettinger won the bronze medal with the Canadian national team, with the seniors it was enough at the World Cup in 2006 to fourth place. Previously, the Canadians had already won as junior players at the U20 World Junior Championship in 1999 with maple leaves the silver medal.
