Matt Rees

Matt Beynon Rees (born 1967 in Newport, Wales) is a Welsh journalist and writer.

Life

Rees studied English literature at the University of Oxford and journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park. He then lived for five years in New York before he went to Jerusalem in 1996, where he initially wrote for The Scotsman and Newsweek. From 2000 to 2006 he headed the Jerusalem office of Time magazine, for which he continues to write.

In 2008, his first Kriminialroman appeared with the Palestinian teacher Omar Yussef. The traitor of Bethlehem was awarded the New Blood Dagger Award.

Rees speaks inter alia, Arabic and Hebrew, and lives with his family in Jerusalem.
