Matt Thompson (footballer)

Brian Matthew " Matt" Thompson ( born August 18, 1982 in Bankstown, New South Wales) is an Australian football player.

Career

Thompson began his active career as a football player at Campbelltown RSL in 1999, he joined the New South Wales Super League to playing there Macarthur Rams. That same season, he transferred to the then highest league in Australian football, in the National Soccer League to Parramatta Power. In football club from Parramatta he graduated until his departure in 2004, 93 games, scoring eight goals. In 2004 he returned to the setting of the League to his former club, the Macarthur Rams, back and completed 13 games and came up with three goals. He then played in the New South Wales Premier League at the Marconi Stallions. When the A-League was founded in August 2005, Thompson transferred to the Newcastle United Jets. In the 2007 /08 season, Thompson was with his team of Australian Champion. In 2010 he left Newcastle and moved to the newly founded League rivals Melbourne Heart, in which he received in 2013 a new contract. In October 2013 he joined the Sydney FC, who in equipping him with a contract until the summer of 2014.

In early 2009 he played in the qualification for the Asian Cup 2011, the first time in the Australian national team.

With 311 games, he holds the record for most appearances in the A-League.
