Matteo Ferrari ( born December 5, 1979 in Aflou, Algeria) is an Italian football player. His mother is from Guinea, his father is Italian.

Career

In the club

Born in North Africa Algeria Italians began his career in the youth from SPAL. His next club was Inter Milan, where he first played in the youth and was brought into the first team since 1996. In January 1998, Ferrari changed for half a year to Genoa. In the 1998/99 season the defender played for U.S. Lecce. 1999/2000 we went to AS Bari. 2000/ 01 came Matteo Ferrari returned to his first professional club Inter Milan. From 2001 to 2004, the Italian was at AC Parma under contract. After a relatively long time in the Parmiggiani he moved for an undisclosed fee for AS Roma, in turn, changed Damiano Ferronetti to Parma. He left the Roma after just one year later 2005/06 season on loan towards Liverpool to Everton, with an option to purchase in the amount of 5.4 million euros, it should replace the badly injured Alessandro Pistone. At the end of the season the Toffees not attracted the option to buy. Thus, the defender played again at AS Roma from 2006 to 2008, but did not renew his contract and joined the 2008/09 season free transfer to Genoa, where he signed a three-year contract and under coach Gian Piero Gasperini was a regular in defense.

In July 2009, Ferrari joined the Turkish club Besiktas Istanbul, where he signed a four year contract.

Since the spring of 2012, he belongs to the Montreal Impact in from the Major League Soccer. He plays in a team with four other Italians: Marco Di Vaio, Alessandro Nesta, Andrea Pisanu and Daniele Paponi.

In the National Team

Matteo Ferrari went through from the U-15 national teams all youth of his country. In 2000, he won the Italian U- 21 team under coach Marco Tardelli in Slovakia the European title.

For the Italian national team Ferrari has played more eleven games. He made his debut on 20 November 2002 under Giovanni Trapattoni in a 1-1 draw in a friendly against Turkey in Pescara. 2004 was the defender of the Italian squad for the European Championships in Portugal, where he however did not play and was eliminated with his team after the group round. A short time later represented Matteo Ferrari his country in football tournament of the Summer Olympic Games in Athens. He completed all six games and won with the trained Claudio Gentile team the bronze medal.
