Matteo Orsini

Matteo Orsini OP ( † August 18, 1340 in Avignon ) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Orsini taught in Paris, Florence and Rome theology. In 1322 he was Provincial of the Roman Province of the Dominican Order. In 1326 he was elected bishop of Girgenti in Sicily. In June 1327 he became Archbishop of Liponto. Pope John XXII. took him on December 18, 1327 in the College of Cardinals and gave him the titular church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo. From December 1338 on, he was Cardinal Bishop of Sabina. He was buried in Rome in the church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva, the grave plate created Agnolo di Ventura.
