Matthaeus Pipelare

Matthew Pipelare (* 1450, † 1515 ) was a Franco- Flemish composer of the Renaissance.

Life

About Matthew Pipelare very little is known. It is known that he came from Antwerp to 's- Hertogenbosch. In the account books of the Illustre Lieve Vrouwe Broederschap in 's- Hertogenbosch, he is as Matthaeus and as Matt Bertheussen (ie, the son of Matthew) of 14 March 1498 to around 1 May 1500 at a post of zangmeesters detected. He was probably from late November 1499 to mid January 1500 vacation.

Perhaps Pipelare has held a office in Ghent in the 1460s or 1470s, which his Missa de Sancto Livinus could interpret. It is striking that Pipelare as a native of Ghent Jacob Obrecht wrote several masses that use multiple cantus firmi.

Appreciation

Pipelare was an exceptionally capable composer whose works have been invested in the words of Andreas Ornithoparchus (16th century ) from the wellspring of the arts. He mastered all genres with equal mastery. His music often shows a deep melancholy. Two special characteristics of his compositions are the frequent use of syncopation and sequences.
