Matthew Barnaby

Matthew Joseph Thomas Barnaby ( born May 4, 1973 in Ottawa, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who during his playing career 1993-2007 for the Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars played in the National Hockey League for the position of right winger. During this time, Barnaby was one of the most notorious Pests of sport in North America.

Career

Matthew Barnaby played in his youth for the Beauport Harfangs, Verdun Collège Français and Victoriaville Tigres in the Quebec Major Junior League Canadian Junior Hockey League. Already there drew his game by a hard and provocative gait from, in the years 1992 and 1993 he led the standings penalty minutes the QMJHL. The attacker completed a total of 180 games in the junior league, but he received 1186 penalty minutes. NHL Entry Draft 1992, the winger was selected in the fourth round at a total of 83 position of the Buffalo Sabres and came in the 1992/93 season late in the current season to his debut in the National Hockey League. In the NHL, he followed up on his style of play from the Youth League and received in two appearances in the regular season ten penalty minutes, and a further four in a play-off game. In the following season he played alternately in Buffalo and in the American Hockey League farm team of the Sabres, the Rochester Americans. The 1994/95 season he spent mostly in the AHL before he finally was able to establish himself in the NHL. His most successful season saw the crowd favorite in the 1996/97 season, when he, despite 249 penalty minutes was able to achieve 19 goals and 43 points in 68 games.

After almost seven seasons, a total of 344 games and 1327 penalty minutes for the Buffalo Sabres, he was transferred to the Pittsburgh Penguins on 11 March 1999 in exchange for Stu Barnes. With the Penguins, he played three years before was sent mid-season 2000/ 01 to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Pittsburgh received in return Wayne Primeau. In Florida, the Canadians could not match his performance and after just eight points from 58 missions he transferred to the New York Rangers, where he could play fast to fan favorites. Even when the Rangers were successes out after three seasons in New York without having to participate in the play-offs, he was transferred together with a third-round draft pick for the NHL Entry Draft 2004 Colorado Avalanche shortly before the end of the transfer window of the season 2003/ 04, the New York Rangers in return received David Liffiton, Chris McAllister and a second-round draft pick.

In July 2004, the attacker signed a three year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, the NHL season 2004/ 05 was due to a lockout, however, completely out. At the end of the season 2005 /06, his contract was canceled by the Blackhawks. Matthew Barnaby signed for the 2006/07 season a contract with the Dallas Stars, but for the Texans, the striker played just 39 games since he incurred in January 2007 in a game against the Phoenix Coyotes a craniocerebral trauma. In July 2007, Barnaby was due to the consequences of this breach his retirement from active sports known.
