Matthew Connolly

Matthew Thomas Connolly (* September 24, 1987 in Barnet, London) is an English footballer. The defender played since August 2012 for Cardiff City.

Connolly went through the youth department of FC Arsenal, played for the reserves. After he was promoted to captain in September 2006, the second team of FC Arsenal, he made his debut shortly afterwards on 24 October 2006 in the first team in the League Cup. On 23 November 2006 Arsenal announced that Connolly is on loan until 2 January 2007 to the AFC Bournemouth. Overall, he played in seven games for Bournemouth ( five in the league, two in the FA Cup) and thereby scored his first goal as a professional. Connolly returned as planned in January 2007 to Arsenal and played back there again in the League Cup. For the 2007/08 season he was loaned to Colchester United, where he was originally supposed to stay the whole season. On 2 January 2008, he then moved However, the Queens Park Rangers.

After he spent the second half of the 2011/12 season at Reading FC, he moved in August 2012 to Cardiff City, where he signed a three-year contract until 30 June 2015.
