Matthew Evans, Baron Evans of Temple Guiting

Matthew Evans, Baron Evans of Temple Guiting CBE ( born August 7, 1941) is a British Labour Party politician and member of the House of Lords.

Evans 's father was the writer George Ewart Evans. He worked as a bookseller and later became managing director of the publisher Faber and Faber. Evans was also director of the British Film Institute.

In May 2000, he was raised as Baron Evans of Temple Guiting to Life Peer. In the House of Lords, he served from 2002 to 2007 as a whip and was from 2003, spokesman for the Department for Constitutional Affairs. In addition, he was spokesman for the Department for Communities and Local Government, the Department of Trade and Industry, the Department for Work and Pensions, and the Treasury. He left the government in 2007, to go to Swiss bank EFG International.

He is married to the literary agent Caroline Michel.
