Matthew J. Holman

Matthew J. Holman ( b. 1967 ) is an American astrophysicist and discoverer or co-discoverer of numerous irregular moons of the planet Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

Biography

He studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where in 1994 he received his doctorate. He currently teaches at the Harvard - Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

Matthew Holman was a member of three different teams of astronomers who discovered the following irregular moons ( Gladman et al, et al Kavelaars and Holman et al.. . ):

  • The moons of Saturn XIX Ymir, Paaliaq XX, XXI Tarvos, Ijiraq XXII, XXIII Suttungr, Kiviuq XXIV, XXV Mundilfari, Albiorix XXVI, XXVII Skathi, Erriapus XXVIII, XXIX and XXX Siarnaq Thrymr
  • The moons of Uranus XVIII Prospero, Setebos XIX, XX Stephano, Trinculo XXI, XXII and XXIV Francisco Ferdinand

As well as

  • Neptune's moons Halimede IX, X Psamathe, Sao XI, XII and XIII Laomedeia Neso.

Trivia

According to him, the asteroid ( 3666 ) Holman = 1979 HP was named.
