Matthew Kemp

Matthew Allan Kemp ( born August 8, 1980 in Canberra) is an Australian football player.

Career

Kemp joined after two years at the Australian Institute of Sport to the NSL club Adelaide City and scored in his debut season 1999/2000 six goals in 30 missions. For the following season, he joined the Italian third division side SPAL, but returned after just one season back to Adelaide back.

After the withdrawal of Adelaide City in the NSL Kemp moving in 2003 to the succession team Adelaide United, of which he was also the introduction of the A-League in 2005. In the 2006/07 season he reached the Adelaide Cup final, but at the 0:6 defeat in the final against Melbourne he could not participate because of a yellow card suspension. Kemp then refused a contract extension in Adelaide and moved free transfer to the reigning champions Melbourne Victory.

After a rather mixed season he was one of the championship winning 2008/ 09 to the service providers in the Melbourne defense and missed only one game season. In the final, Melbourne and the most up botene as full-back kept Kemp 1-0 against Adelaide United the upper hand. In the following season he was able to confirm its shape and came in January 2010 in the Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait on his debut in the Australian national team. Only a month later, he withdrew in a league game a serious knee injury and was out for several months. This he also missed the final round of the championship, as Melbourne missed the title defense by a 2:4 - final defeat on penalties against Sydney FC.
