Matthew Ryan (equestrian)

Matthew Ryan, OAM, ( born June 3, 1964 in Sydney ) is an Australian former event rider and horse breeder. With three Olympic gold medals he is one of the most successful of his sport.

The youngest of four brothers started riding at the age of four brothers. In 1984, he moved to Britain and became a year coached by triple Olympic gold medalist Richard Meade. After he returned to Australia in 1985, he worked with his second oldest brother Simon on his parents' sheep farming operation. From 1987 he lived with his eldest brother Heath and his wife in the equestrian center of the state of New South Wales. At the Olympic Summer Games in Seoul in 1988 he was reserve rider, but did not play.

With the horse Kibah Tic Toc Ryan won the gold medal in the individual competition and with the team at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona in 1992 as the first Australians. Four years later he was again among the favorites, but since both horses, with which he had qualified to be injured a few days before the competition, he had a start in Atlanta without. At the Olympic Summer Games 2000 in his hometown of Sydney Ryan was the third time Olympic gold medalist ( in the team standings with the horse Kibah Sandstone ). Matthew Ryan is married and lives since 1989 in Abergavenny in south-east Wales, where he runs a stud farm.
