Matthew Talbot

Matthew Talbot (* 1762 in Bedford County, Virginia; † September 17, 1827 in Washington, Georgia ) was an American politician and governor of Georgia.

The exact date of birth of Matthew Talbot is unknown, one assumes, however, that he was born in 1762, even before the founding of the United States. After serving in the militia of the State of Georgia Talbot embarked on a political career. In 1799 he became a deputy in the House of Representatives from Georgia, 1811 and 1817 to 1822 he was in the state Senate and was its chairman.

In this capacity he was after the death of the incumbent Governor William Rabun on October 24, 1819 in accordance with the Constitution itself Governor.
