Matthew Taylor (composer)

Matthew Taylor ( born 1964 in London ) is a British composer and conductor.

Life

Taylor appeared as a twelve year old in the Junior Royal Academy of Music, where he received first lessons in composition. He continued his studies later at Queens ' College, Cambridge with Robin Holloway, and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and at the Royal Academy of Music continues. In 1984, he met the composer Robert Simpson know the lasting effect on Taylor's musical aesthetic and compositional style took hold.

Conducting Taylor studied at Robin Page and Vilem Tausky. In 1987 he was an assistant Leonard Bernstein at the Schleswig- Holstein Music Festival. Taylor appeared as guest conductor with the English Chamber Orchestra, the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia, the Royal Ballet Sinfonia, the European Community Chamber Orchestra and the National Orchestra of the Academy of Saint Petersburg. He conducted premieres of works by Vagn Holmboe, Robert Simpson, David Matthews and Francis Brown.

Matthew Taylor is a lecturer in composition at the Junior Royal Academy of Music. He lives in the district of Battersea in south London, is married and has two daughters.

Taylor's compositional work consists primarily of instrumental music. He prefers traditional large forms such as symphony, concerto and string quartet.
