Matthew Yuricich

Matthew J. Yuricich ( born January 19, 1923 in Lorain, Ohio; † 28, 2012 in Woodland Hills, California ) was an American Digital Matte Painter, who was involved in many science - fiction film productions. For his work to escape into the 23rd century, he was in 1977 awarded a special Oscar in the category Best Visual Effects.

Life and work

After studying art at Miami University and the University of California Matthew Yuricich in 1950 began working in the film industry at 20th Century Fox, Metro -Goldwyn -Mayer and Paramount Pictures as a matte painter. After a period in the 1970s as a freelancer, he was then employed in the 1980s in Richard Edlund's Boss Films effect wrought.

At Matthew Yuricichs known works include, inter alia, Ben Hur, 2022 ... want to survive, escape into the 23rd century, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Trek: The Motion or Blade Runner.

After his last movie Harley Davidson & The Marlboro Man 1991 Yuricich went into retirement. His brother Richard Yuricich is a well-known special effects expert and cameraman - Uncanny in the films Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Blade Runner they worked together.
