Matthias Behr

Matthias Behr ( born April 1, 1955 in Tauberbischofsheim ) is a German fencer and Olympic champion and three-time world champion.

Matthias Behr is married to his second wife, the former foil fencer Zita radio Hauser. After ending his career as an active athlete, he became director of the boarding school part-time at the Olympic base Tauberbischofsheim.

During his playing days he belonged to a group of foil fencers from Tauberbischofsheim, or the local service center who dominated her sport for almost 15 years nationally and internationally.

In the midst of his active career, on 19 July 1982 indented Matthias Behr and fencing generally in the public interest beyond sport, as at the World Championships in Rome a fatal accident happened: Behrs blade broke and injured the then most successful fencer and reigning world champion Vladimir Smirnov fatally in the head.

Matthias Behr was one of the close associates of Emil Beck and was briefly succeeded him as team manager of the German national fencing. In November 2009 it was announced that Behr had suffered from severe depression.
