Matthias Benesch

Matthias Benesch ( born August 28, 1968 in Merseburg ) is a retired German bobsledder.

Career

He trained at the Children's and Youth Sports School ( KJS ) in Halle and at SC Einheit Dresden pole vault. In 1987, he joined the bobsleigh for SG Dynamo Cínovec, where he won to 2003 successes in two and four man. Benesch was 12 years a soldier in the sports promotion group Berchtesgaden. As a sergeant he ended his athletic career in 2003. He took in 2005 at the Armed Forces Vocational School Naumburg Abitur and studied in connection to the University of Cooperative Education in Riesa Sachsen with a focus on sports event management and marketing.

Since October 2007 he is Managing Director of the luge and bobsled track Altenberg. Highlights of his work include the hosting of the World Cup 2008 and the Wok World Championship 2008.

  • Bronze at the European Championships in 2002 in four in Cortina d'Ampezzo

  • German Champion in the four: 2001
  • German Vice Champion in the four: 1996
  • Winner of the Senior European Championships in two in Innsbruck
  • 2x Junior World Champion in the four: 1993 in Cortina d' Ampezzo, in 1994 in St. Moritz
