Matthias Lindner (footballer born 1965)

Matthias Lindner ( born October 5, 1965, in Grimsby ) is a former German football player.

Sports career

Matthias Lindner comes from the young field of BSG Lok Naunhof. In 1976, he transferred to 1 FC Locomotive Leipzig, for which he went through all the youth teams, and was able to quickly establish the pro squad of the fair city dwellers.

Lindner played for many years in the most successful period of the club, in 1986 and 1987 he won the fdgb Cup. In the East German championship, he was twice runner-up with Lok failed here each at BFC Dynamo. At international level, he reached the final of the 1987 European Cup Winners' Cup, Ajax Amsterdam defeated but according to an individual error Lindner against Marco van Basten 0:1. After the turn he rose with VfB Leipzig for a short time in the Bundesliga, in the subsequent period saw Lindner but also the gradual decline of the association.

In 1997, the midfielder for Premier League rivals FC Carl Zeiss Jena, after just one season, he signed on to the regional league team FC Sachsen Leipzig, where he ended his career in 2000.

Matthias Lindner played 22 international matches for the national football team of the GDR.
