Matti Alahuhta

Matti Juhani Alahuhta ( born June 22, 1952 in Alahärmä, Finland) is a Finnish manager and since 2005 CEO of KONE Corporation.

Life

Training

After completing his M.Sc. Technology in 1976 received his doctorate in 1990 with Alahuhta his dissertation on " Global Growth Strategies for High Technology Challengers " at the Helsinki University of Technology Doctor of Technical Sciences.

Career

After completing his engineering studies Alahuhta worked as a development engineer for the Nokia Group, in which he also made ​​a career over the years. From 1982 to 1984 Alahuta was employed as a sales director at Rank Xerox, however, he returned back in 1984 as Sales Director at Nokia. 1992 Alahuhta was first vice-president, then from 1993 to 1998 president of the telecommunications division of Nokia. From 1998 to 2003 Alahuhta was president of Nokia's mobile phone division, in 2004, he held the position of Vice President of Nokia Group. Since early 2005 Alahuhta is CEO of KONE Group.

Private

Alahuhta is married and has two children. His hobbies include golf, tennis and reading.

Awards and honors

1994 Alahuhta was honored as a Knight, First Class of the Order of the White Rose of Finland; he was awarded the Order as Commander since 2003.

Alahuhta was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the Technical University of Tampere.

In 2009 he was awarded the European Manager of the Year.
