Matts Olsson

Matts Olsson ( born December 1, 1988 in Karlstad ) is a Swedish alpine skier. He started in the World Cup to start in all disciplines, focusing since 2008, but mainly on the slalom and the giant slalom - his strongest discipline. In 2008 he became Junior World Champion in the combination.

Biography

Olsson played his first FIS race in February 2004. A year later he won the European Youth Olympic Festival in sixth place in the Super -G. In 2006, he first participated in a Junior World Championship and reached its best result sixth place in the Super -G. Since the season 2006/ 07 he starts in the European Cup, reached this winter but only once the points. In January 2007, Olsson was Swedish Junior Champion in slalom and giant slalom, in February he participated in the 2007 World Championships in Åre part and showed places 28 in the Super -G and 36 in the downhill.

His first major international successes celebrated Olsson at the Junior World Championships 2007 in Altenmarkt: in the downhill, he won the silver medal in the giant slalom and the bronze medal in the Super- G, he was fifth. Since the 2007/2008 season, the Swede will start in the World Cup, but was not yet in his first season in the points. Best result was ranked 31 in the super combined of Beaver Creek.

At the Junior World Championship 2008 in Formigal Olsson could his previous successes even outdo: With the third place in the giant slalom, fourth in the downhill and the tithe of the slalom, he became Junior World Champion in the combination. At season's end, he won the Swedish championship in the giant slalom and Super- G. On February 28, 2009 Olsson took in his 23 World Cup races, the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora, ranked 26th with his first World Cup points. On 1 April 2009 he was the second time the Swedish championship in the giant slalom and in 2010 he was able to repeat this success.

In November 2009, Olsson scored a podium finish for the first time in a European Cup races and in February 2010 he achieved the first European Cup victory which he came fourth in the giant slalom standings in the season 2009/10. However, in the World Cup, he remained throughout the winter without points. Only at the beginning of the 2010/11 season he was able to score again in the World Cup, when he surprisingly reached the twelfth place in the giant slalom in Beaver Creek with the fastest time in the second round. Two weeks later he scored the seventh place in the giant slalom in Alta Badia his first top-10 result. His best World Cup result of the winter he reached sixth place in the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora. At the World Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he reached with the Swedish team the bronze medal in the team competition. In his special discipline, the giant slalom, he was ranked 18, also he was 24th in super -G.

Like last year reached Olsson in the season 2011/ 12, two top-10 results in the World Cup and again was a sixth place in the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora his best result.
