Mattstedt is a town in the Ilm Valley Wine Trail in the northeast of the county Weimar area.

History

The first part of the name comes from althochdeuten mät that meant so much like " mow, Mowed ". Instead, stedt is called site or central square. Old church records refer to a noble family, which bore the name Matstat ( 1243 ) or Matstete ( 1274). North of Mattstedt there is a deserted village named Stedten.
