Matzerath

Matze Rath is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality of Prüm.

Geography

Matzerath located in the West Eifel. The municipality also includes the eastern part of the hamlet Dürsittert.

History

From the Celtic era graves were found in the vicinity of the place. Today's church was built in the medieval clearing phase. It belonged to the condominium Pronsfeld. 1794 the place was French, 1815, he came to Prussia and the circle Prüm was assigned. Middle of the 20th century lived in Matzerath about 100 inhabitants, since the population is declining. The municipality of Prüm heard Matzerath on since 1971.
