Mauborget

Mauborget is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Mauborget is at an altitude of 1,170 m above sea level. M. in the town center, the highest village in the Swiss Jura, 8 km north of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The farming village extends on the southern slopes of the Chasseron chain, in a promising position for more than 700 m above the plane of the Swiss Plateau. On a clear day the view extends to the whole chain of the Alps from Mont Blanc massif to the region of Pilate and Glärnisch.

The area of ​​5.5 km ² large municipality territory, which includes a section on the anticlines of the Chasseron. The communal land extends from the steep wooded hillside La Côte northward over the clearing of the island terrace of Mauborget (also Balcon du Jura Vaudois country ) to the level En Tévenon ( 1,323 m above sea level. M. ) and depression in the Prés de la Meule. Population

With 103 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Mauborget one of the smallest municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 92.9% inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 4.7 % and 1.2 % in English (as of 2000). The population of Mauborget amounted in 1900 to 92 residents, then they halved by 1980 (41 inhabitants). Particularly in recent years, however, a significant increase in population was again recorded.

Economy

Mauborget was until the mid 20th century embossed mainly by agriculture village. Even today, the livestock and dairy industry play an important role as a source of income of the population. In recent decades, Mauborget has also developed into a residential community. Since there are hardly any jobs in the village outside of the primary sector, many are employed commuters who work mainly in Yverdon.

Tourism

Thanks to its beautiful location, Mauborget has developed into a resort with some weekend and holiday homes. In the summer Mauborget and its surroundings a popular destination as a resort and the starting point for hikes. West of the town is in winter a ski lift in each operation.

Traffic

The community is located far away from the major thoroughfares. The main access is from Grandson, above the village a road leads to Sainte -Croix, the other on the Chasseronkette to Couvet. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1403 under the name Villar Malborget. The place name is of mauvais (bad) and Borget ( small town / stains ) derived. Mauborget belonged to the early 15th century to the reign Grandson. After 1476 Grandson was a bailiff under the general rule of Bern and Fribourg. It was not until 1730 Mauborget became an independent community after the division of the Office Meier Fiez. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. Mauborget does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Villars -Burquin.
