Maude Barlow

Maude Barlow ( born May 19, 1947 in Toronto, Ontario ) is a Canadian journalist and activist.

Life

After activities in the feminist movement 1983 she was the first adviser on women's issues ( adviser on women's issues) the Canadian Prime Minister (then Pierre Trudeau ). Some time after a change of government, she gave up her job in the government and in 1988 chairman of the left-leaning Council of Canadians, the largest civil rights movement in Canada. In the late 1990s she sat together with other civil society forces against planned by the OECD Multilateral Agreement on Investment (MAI ) that was criticized by many developing countries as a new form of colonization. The OECD dropped the plan, but the WTO wants to push through with the contract package GATS similar.

Another focus of her work is criticism of the Pan-American Free Trade Agreement ( except Cuba) FTAA. Again, they criticized that large corporations are favored over the population and small countries in non-transparent negotiations.

Barlow is also a board member of the International Forum on Globalization and co-founder of the environmental movement Blue Planet Project, which aims to protect the drinking water before the " threat of trade and privatization ."

She performed alongside Michael Moore and Others in the Canadian documentary The Corporation from 2003 on.

Maude Barlow lives in Ottawa in second marriage with Andrew Davis together. So far, they published about ten books on the topics of globalization, privatization, education, media and environmental protection.
