maudlin of the Well

Maudlin of the Well (often abbreviated as MOTW ) was an avant-garde metal band from Boston, Massachusetts. It was characterized by a very atmospheric style, which was repeatedly replaced by hard ( Doom ) Metal passages. Other influences of Maudlin Of The Well were Progressive Metal, Death Metal, Space Rock and Indie Rock.

Band History

Maudlin of the Well was founded in 1996 by a variety of musicians ( among others by Toby Driver ) and broke up in 2003. During this period, the band released three albums: My Fruit Psycho Bells ... A Seed Combustible (1999), Bath (2001) and Leaving Your Body Map (2001), where the last two CDs can be viewed as a cohesive albums.

After the dissolution of the band, many of the old band members formed the group Kayo Dot, which still exists today, but adopted by the metal content of the pieces and has turned to the post-rock.

The central theme of the lyrics by maudlin of the Well is the so-called astral projection, a condition similar to the conscious dreams.

Maudlin of the Well was trying musically to implement what the band members had perceived and felt in the so-called astral plane. Therefore, it was part of the group rather often spoken of to find music rather than writing them.

During the work on their fourth album, many long-time members left the band, so that the group renamed Kayo Dot. The new CD called Choirs Of The Eye was eventually published in 2003 under the new band name.

In May 2009, the album The Second Part was published. It contains some not yet recorded and unreleased tracks, and was financed by donations from interested fans after Toby Driver had mentioned these pieces in his weblog.
